MultiCharts: Trading Software for Automated Trading and Backtesting

Files of tick data that were well over 1yr old has been truncated and now only go back to 11 aug 08, this is very frustrating. How could the data have been lost

I have been collecting dde sourced data from IB level2 via excel in real time.
