Hi
is it possible to plot a weekly indicator (for example bollinger bands of a weekly chart) in a daily chart without plotting the weekly chart.

it is better (and easier) to insert the weekly data into the chart.

you said "it is better (and easier) to insert the weekly data into the chart."

ok, is it possible to hide the weekly data?

yes, just set the display to hidden.

Format Instrument > Style > Invisible bars

yes, just set the display to hidden.

Format Instrument > Style > Invisible bars
If I add Bid and Ask data to the chart for backtesting with Extended settings, this makes the primary chart unreadable even when the added data series are set to Hidden with Invisible Bars. Is this expected behaviour of MC 6.0 or am I doing something wrong?

Edit: This happens on tick charts, because the Ask and Bid data series have a higher amount of 'ticks' compared with the primary chart. This then creates space between the bars on the primarily chart (roughly 10 bars) so I guess I'm looking for an option/setting to tell MultiCharts to not respect the x-axis of the hidden and invisible data2. The 'Show empty periods' is already set to off.

Edit 2: Ah this is a known missing feature:
Keep X Scale of Data1 when 'hidden' Data2 is in different time frame [Feature Request]

Sorry for bumping this thread needlessly - but if you've read this far, why not vote for it? ;)

Josh

I can see how having that feature would be convenient. When data1 is the lowest resolution of them all, there shouldn't be large spacing in my understanding, but I may be wrong. I'll need to test this scenario. If data2 and so on are higher, I think I can see how this would create spaces in data1.

I think you're right Stan. As long as Data1 is the lowest resolution (i.e. the most updates per time period), in comparison with Data2, the chart plots okay. When switching this (Data2 lowest resolution), the chart (meaning Data1) gets out of proportion. (See attached screens, with the Ask data as Data1 and another with Trade as Data1)

Perhaps it would be an idea to decrease the bar spacing of Data2 (while keeping Data1) the same in that case? That way the primary data series remains correctly plotted. True, Data2 would be harder to read because the bars are tightly together, but I think that will be of less important because added data series with a lower resolution are more for data purposes than charting (otherwise the user would plot this as primarily right?).

Josh

Thanks, we'll review the feature and think about what we can do. In the meantime, you hide data2 and data3 if you don't need them, right? If so, have you tried just increasing compression of your chart to make the bars of data1 appear closer? That might be a solution in the interim.

True, when hiding Data2 and Data3 and changing the bar spacing of the primary chart makes it usable but not good readable. The primary issue I got with this is that it makes the candles all grey, showing only the wicks (see attached screen, with the Bid and Ask data series set to hidden). This makes the chart somewhat harder to read, but I admit it's not a critical missing feature and in the mean time this will work okay.
